Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger takes place in New York City in 1951. The main character, 16-year-old Holden Caulfield, describes his feelings of loneliness, isolation and depression during a few days after he got expelled from school.
In my book cover design, I wanted to depict the feeling of being lost in a big city and wandering around at night, while feeling isolated from everyone else. The abstracted figures represent the people around Holden, but also the New York City buildings.
Bookmarks for the Catcher in the Rye were inspired by motifs from the book. Each bookmark contains a quote on the other side.
The poster for this book shows Holden’s inevitable fall into mental illness that is hard to stop.
